About this Book
Im not staying here, Lottie said. Ill run away, youll see. Im going to find Mummy and make her come home.
Judith and Lottie Weiner live in a small, run-down home in postwar London. When their mother becomes too sick to care for them, the girls are sent away to live with their unloving aunt and uncle and mean, selfish cousin. The girls are given barely enough food to survive, and they must stay in their room most of the day. Whenever Lottie misbehaves, Judith is blamed and punished.
But nothing has prepared Judith for their newest calamity. They suspect their aunt and uncle sent their mother away. But why?
In this compelling historical novel, talented author Deborah Guttentag takes readers on a fascinating journey through life in 1960s England, from Londons red phone booths to the sparkling blue waters of the Lake District. Join Judith and Lottie as they struggle to unravel the secrets of their past and reunite with their mother.
